    Terrificolor on Myspace:
    http://www.myspace.com/terrificolor

An attraction to the extremes of music, sound synthesis and dolphins has led Terrificolor (Fabien) to the sound of breakcore and drill and bass. He used to play the guitar in grindcore bands, but the lure of sole control over his creative output led him to electronic music production.

“3” is the second EP from Terrificolor – “Murphi” being the first – which combines vintage (MKS 80, Juno,Trident, TR etc) and modern sounds (Andromeda, Elektron MD, reaktor…) into a rollercoaster trip through a deranged bastard child of breakcore, hardware and electronica.

All the tracks on this record have been composed and mixed by Terrificolor except “Délicieuse enfant” composed by Terrificolor & Rectom and “Sonofox opiates” which is a remix of “Sonata Op 111” composed and mixed by Scrubber Fox.

The principle of Terrificolor’s music is to shape the random and to use opposition, contrast and movements.

    ARTIST PROFILES:

    DMX Krew LIVE (Rephlex, Breakin’)
    http://www.dmxkrew.com

Ed DMX lives in London where he makes music and runs his label Breakin’ Records. He also travels around DJing and performing live most weekends in different parts of the world.

The first DMX Krew release was 1995’s “Got You On My Mind” on Dutch label DAP, and this was followed in 1996 by “Sound Of The Street” on Aphex Twin’s label Rephlex. This record hinted at what was to come with its mix of instrumental electro, synthpop and techno made on vintage equipment. Lots more releases followed, mainly through Rephlex but also on diverse labels including International Deejay Gigolos, Ersatz Audio, Sonic Groove and several others. DMX Krew remixes have also appeared of various artists including Gentle People, Biochip C, Denki Groove, Le Car and many others.

In 1997 Ed DMX started his label Breakin’ Records which gained a cult following as one of the UK’s first electro and bass labels with releases from DMX Krew and under the alias Computor Rockers, as well as first signings Bass Junkie and Mandroid. Later Breakin’ branched into other sounds with the signing and debut releases of acid maestro Ceephax Acid Crew, and the synthpop of G. D. Luxxe. In 2000 as EDMX, Ed became one of the first non-Detroit artists to make and release Ghetto-style electro tunes on the successful MPC Trax series of 12″s and the sell-out mix CD Bass mix. Later Detroit artists Digitek, 313 Bass Mechanics and Disco D also released on Breakin’ / MPC Trax.

The last three albums and pair of 7″ singles released on Rephlex under the umbrella of “The Collapse Of The Wave Function” reveal a deeper, more considered side to his production, featuring ambient and experimental tracks as well as quirkier dancefloor fillers.

Ed has performed all around the world both as a DJ and as a live act, including several US tours with and without the Rephlex crew, most of western and northern Europe and a lot of eastern Europe too, numerous tours in Japan including WIRE99 in front of 8000 people with Derrick May and Denki Groove in the Yokohama Arena. In 2004 DMX Krew appeared for the first time in Australia and he continues to play out most weekends.

    Feldermelder LIVE (Spezialmaterial, Switzerland)
    http://www.feldermelder.ch
Feldermelder is the driving force behind the uber-cool Swiss electronica label Spezialmaterial and we have been trying to get him over to the UK for some time now. With a live set full of crisp beats, complex rhythms and intricate melodies, it’s no wonder that he can count Autechre, Team Doyobi, Plaid and many more of the world’s finest electronic musicians as collaborators and friends.

Scrubber Fox & DJ Stuff LIVE (The Centrifuge, UK) – 3D-AV SHOW!!
    http://www.myspace.com/thescrubberfoxspace
Hailing from the north of this fine isle, Scrubber Fox doesn’t make it as far as London too often. That’s a big shame, as he has been tearing up our 2009 shows with floor-filler acid rinseouts and tumbling breakbeats to our great pleasure. Not to worry, by popular request he’s coming down to the big smoke with a totally fresh live setup that will leave heads scratched, feet raw and sweat dripping from the ceiling. Having released on Skam, Merck and now The Centrifuge, the heads know about Scrubber and it’s time you did too. Joined by DJ Stuff for a London debut 3D-AV Scrubber disco!!

    Vertical67 LIVE (Acroplane, Germany)
    http://www.myspace.com/vertical67
Vertical67 is a lifelong Berliner. He started making electronic music around 1999, producing in many different styles. In general he makes some electronic music influenced by acid, jungle, psychedelia. So far he released 2 Albums on the mighty netlabel Acroplane Recordings and several other contributions to some compilations, remixes and the like. Expect some rave this evening.

    Nexus LIVE (The Centrifuge, Ireland)
    http://www.siliconepoplars.com/
Silicone Poplars/Nexus is a Dublin/Berlin-based composer and performer of sparse ambient electronica mixed with breakbeat, glitch and homemade electronics. Live sets usually include a homemade interface which tracks the movement of gameboy cartridges and chess pieces to control sound events. These homemade devices and interfaces have been on public display as interactive installations, but mostly play the part of instruments in live performances. — happy to have shared stages with Sunken Foal, Creator, Herv, DJ Scotch Egg, Miles Iwes, T-woc, Sarsparilla, Cignol, The Last Sound and to have been invited to perform at the Project Arts Centre, UCC, NUIM, Mantua, Life and Tweak Festival.

    Fractional LIVE (The Centrifuge, Belgium)
    http://www.myspace.com/tirofcnaal
Fractional is Eugenie. Her music can be qualified as brooding electronica with a jungle aftertaste. Pierre literally regurgitates his broken beats, waxing them with various bleeps and crackles, smearing mystical pads over them.

    Volitune LIVE (The Centrifuge, UK)
    http://www.myspace.com/volitune
Volitune is a new signing to The Centrifuge’s acid wing, having released on netlabels such as ARP in the past. Expect advanced melodies, 303 squelch and electro beat business.

    Ursa (The Centrifuge, Brap.FM)
    https://www.thecentrifuge.co.uk
Ursa has been part of The Centrifuge since near its inception, supporting the likes of Tim Exile, Scotch Egg, and Formication, as well as releasing on the netlabel. Resident in East London, he also hosts TheCentrifuge’s radio show on Brap.FM, writes for melodic jungle website www.itstooloud.com and can be found this summer playing alongside luminaries such as iTAL tEK.

    missaw (The Centrifuge)
    http://www.missaw.com
missaw is The Centrifuge’s label curator & resident remixer, creating electronic concoctions for the body and the mind.

  • The Centrifuge @ Futuresonic Festival 2009 Workshop Videos Online!

Here it is, footage from the very first Workshop/Seminar series that The Centrifuge has organised, at Futuresonic Festival in Manchester, May 2009. Apologies for the sound and video quality, limited budget an’ all that!

    Street Rave Footage to follow…

    1) Scrubber Fox, Mr Underwood & DJ Stuff – Microcontrollers & the physical environment: an sonic exploration of microcontrollers, tactile sensors and mechanical devices.
    www.myspace.com/thescrubberfoxspace / www.mrunderwood.co.uk

Sam Underwood and Gary Naylor are electronic musicians hailing from Cornwall and Wigan. Both ‘inventor makers’, they have come together to develop their first collaborative piece for the festival. This will see electronics, interactivity and music collide. Futuresonic will play host to the unveiling, showcase and performance of their work.

Mr Underwood and Scrubber Fox Part 1

Mr Underwood and Scrubber Fox Part 1

    2) NeuTek – www.thecentrifuge.co.uk
Adventures with Piggy Tracker : the pocket studio/performance package

NeuTek (aka Dean Forrest) is an Oslo-based musician and programmer, releasing music exclusively on the The Centrifuge netlabel. He uses bespoke open-source tracker software and portable devices to create technical, emotive and challenging ‘chip-glitch’ music with a dynamic and energetic performance aesthetic.

Piggy tracker is a light weight, multiple platform, powerful music composition tool. In this seminar you will see piggy’s features demonstrated and learn how to compose a song and play it live, all within your hands and off a couple of AA batteries. The utilisation of Piggy tracker has led to the world’s first live “wireless street rave” – the music is created and manipulated live by NeuTek and the Boombot Soundsystem’s speaker-suits form a mobile PA.

    NeuTek

    3) Raw Hedroom – www.myspace.com/rawhedroom
    Jazzmutant Lemur Masterclass

Gareth Williams, otherwise known as Raw Hedroom, has been making waves of late. His recent work has been climbing Beatport’s techno charts and he is one of highly influential German techno label, Trapez’s most recent signings. His own brand of electronic music is technical and often melodic, yet puts the real emphasis on pushing an infectious groove.

After a classical upbringing, thanks to his music-teaching mother, Gareth was seduced by bleeps and buzzes at a tender age and has been practising his dark art ever since. An early adopter of the Lemur, Gareth uses Jazzmutant’s groundbreaking touchscreen controller alongside Ableton Live as as a powerful performance and compositional tool. Being able to “touch” and physically manipulate sounds intuitively allows him to deliver a precisely crafted set. In the studio it lets him capture the human error and groove which is missing from a lot of clinically sequenced electronic music.

This workshop will demonstrate the following aspects of the Lemur/Live partnership while showcasing a number of features from Lemur’s new V2 firmware update:

Performing a powerful hybrid live/DJ set with the Lemur/Live combination
Using the Lemur with Live as a powerful sound-design tool
Natural and musical sequencing with Lemur and Live

    Raw Hedroom Part 1

    Raw Hedroom Part 2

    4) Ben Eyes (aka Quip) – www.quipmusic.co.uk
Live Looping techniques using modular software environments

Using software it is now possible to create live loops on the fly, in a similar fashion to the popular looper pedals. However the modular possibilities of programs such as Audiomulch allow far more creative use of looping. Ben Eyes will be discussing some of the techniques he uses for performance and composition. He will also show off the new mac version of Audiomulch and show how you can use Ableton as a Live Looping platform.

    Quip

    5) Richard Devine – www.richard-devine.com
    Jazzmutant Lemur Masterclass

As an artist his productions are frequently intricate, heavily processed and intense, being held in the highest regard by journalists, music fans and seminal artists such as Autechre and Aphex Twin alike. He has released 4 full-length albums on Schematic, Warp, Asphodel, and Sublight records and has performed his own ear-tearing music mayhem worldwide.

He has done film score work for Touchstone Pictures, sound mangling for Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails, designed countless commercials and done sound design for companies from uber-cool audio companies like Native Instruments, Ableton and Access to car firms such as Audi and BMW!

Being the kind of guy who loves to use (and abuse) any new technology he can get his hands on, he took to the Jazzmutant Lemur like a (rather twisted) duck to water.

In his workshop he will demonstrate how he has been using the Lemur for all of the above! He will discuss how he’s taken advantage of Jazzmutant multitouch technology in multiple situations:

    DJing
    Playing live
    Working in the studio
    Producing sound design
The workshop will feature use of the Lemur in a variety of applications, including Ableton Live, Native Instruments Reaktor and Traktor, Cycling 74’s Max/MSP and more.

[CF020] Various Artists – Anyone Can Make Dubstep

Released on Sunday 12th April 2009 at www.TheCentrifuge.co.uk.

In an homage to those true “mainstream innovators” Radiohead, we’ve taken “Anyone Can Play Guitar” and turned it into “Anyone Can Make Dubstep” a excuse to release something a little different to our usual output. The idea was to solicit tracks from our artist roster and friends utilising the 2-step motif and/or elements associated with it, with the hope that our broad musical church would offer up some original musical communion, or at least something grotesque to sacrifice at the altar. We’ve got some great tracks on here from Centrifuge regulars, some new faces and some distinguished guests.
