Headlining the night is none other than rave legend Mark Archer (of Altern8 & Nexus 21 fame) playing a pure vinyl set of stone cold acid & old skool classics.

Check this video of him in action at I <3 Acid back in 2009 – top one, nice one, get sorted!

    Ed Chamberlain
    http://soundcloud.com/ed-chamberlain

BaseLogic founder member Edmund Chamberlain, preternaturally gifted composer and awkward gentleman, refused to commit his live sound to vinyl for many years and remained a shadowy figure despite calls from such luminaries as John Peel to come in from the cold and tell us what the deuce he was about. After years of tense negotiation, the three part ”Fixxy” series was prised from his white knuckles and unleashed on the world.

It went down like a spoon at a jam festival. The reaction was so overwhelming everyone had to sit down, and when no-one was looking Surgeon, Vent and Ochre did some remixes and the ”Mixxy” series was born. Stay tuned for further developments from Ed, as no-one can be quite sure what, if anything, will happen next.

  • [MALTA] 19/02/11 The Centrifuge 4th Birthday with GLOBAL GOON / RIVAL CONSOLES / KILL REF / QUIP / MISSAW

[MALTA] 19/02/11 The Centrifuge 4th Birthday: GLOBAL GOON / RIVAL CONSOLES / KILL REF / QUIP / MISSAW / CSS RESIDENTS

Saturday 19th February 22:00 till late / 15 Euro on the door
Liquid Club, Limits of San Gwann, Malta

Global Goon (Rephlex, Planet Mu – UK)
Rival Consoles (Erased Tapes – UK)
    Kill Ref (Labyrinth – IT)
    Quip (STFU – UK)
    missaw (The Centrifuge – DE)
CSS Residents (Complex Sound Sagacity – MT)

Oh, to be 4 years old. In human years we’re a diminutive malevolent skinbag filled with blood, crap and bile. In Centrifuge years we’ve been fortunate enough to spawn a wee spinning machine that has organised some notorious parties around the UK and Europe, runs a fortnightly radio show, operates a growing family of digital labels and an artist agency. It’s been a busy time for us and it feels like time to celebrate!

We’ve decided to make quite a big deal out of this one, so we’ve assembled a killer team of live cadets who are heading to our new favourite place – the mediterrenean island of Malta – as we team up with the Complex Sound Sagacity crew for a BIG BAD ACID RAVEUP at Liquid Club.

Top of the list is Rephlex and Planet Mu’s legendary acidmeister GLOBAL GOON, bringing his filthiest 303 lines and tweaked up variants of techno, electro and breakbeat ahead of his performance at Bloc Weekend. London’s RIVAL CONSOLES fuses electro, pop and IDM and twists them into pulsating megaliths of percussion and melody. With his second album on the luminous Erased Tapes Records on the horizon, you’ll get to see what all the fuss is soon going to be about. KILL REF is our Roman acid and techno guru, with a impressive discography and the sweat of most European cities spilled to his electrifying sets. Leeds’ QUIP is packing a hardware punch, playing electro and techno with a twisted attitude to pitch and rhythm. No stranger to Malta, MISSAW will play a special anniversary DJ set taking in some of the music that has shaped the past 12 months for The Centrifuge.

    GLOBAL GOON
According to his press bio, Global Goon’s Johnny Hawk is a former shepherd from Liverpool who earned a recording contract after moving to London and rooming with Richard D. James (aka Aphex Twin) for a time. Hawk had worked in the capital for a multimedia company while making music on the side; after moving into a shared house with James, he released his first album Goon on Rephlex in 1996. Rumors that Goon actually was Aphex Twin persisted even after the release of Cradle of History 4 years later.

Planet Mu / We Me Records Syntheme project is a recognised alias of Global Goon and his recent live / DJ performances exhibit his tweaked-up take on acid house, techno and disco.

    RIVAL CONSOLES
Born in the winter of 1985, Ryan Lee West grew up in the small city of Leicester in the midlands of England. Fascinated by sound from an early age, Ryan chose to dedicate his time to studying, experimenting with and producing sound at De Montfort University Leicester before relocating to London. West strives to humanise and at the same time emphasise entirely computerised sounds to defy categorisation in modern electronic music. Rival Consoles combines a clever and complex mix of hard-hitting beats with catchy acid melodies.

Or as he describes it in his own words: ‘Rival Consoles is a musical project where I take ideas which are cheap and processed, and combine them with rich, unpredictable patterns – resulting in music which appears commercial yet typically against commercial music at the same time.’

    KILL REF
Kill Ref, born as Alessandro Signore, started his own musical path in the early 1994 DJing at several small independent techno parties located between Rome and Naples. His sound has always straightaway pointed out his natural suitability for an avantagarded style such both regarding Autechre’s And Aphex Twin’s visionary rhythmic choices, the strong heirlooms of Mills’ and Hood’s Detroit techno, the Rotterdam ravish hardtouch, the industrial echoes of the early Nitzer Ebb and Front242. Actually more regardless of any time signature, KR can inspire people both moving and travelling through an ecstatic obsessive dance: that’s the simplest and then purest meaning of the complexshaped language inside his dancefloor appeal. The everlasting love for the industrial landscapes and ruins and then the growing dark influence affecting his hybrid productions can let KR glaringly be considered as the “industrial-techno forerunner married with an electronic glitching, drilling hyperuranium”.
