Myoptik’s first full-length album for The Centrifuge sees him take a skewed and propulsive look at aerial combat past, present and future. Night Raidz is a surging attack on the senses; rich with emotion and disorientation. Simultaneously putting the listener inside the fractuous, strobing mind of the pilot, the bomber, the night warden and the looter, Night Raidz is a blitz of sonic aerial manouevring, of exhilaration, tension and man-made destruction.

Catch Myoptik supporting Icarus in Leicester on 21st April.

    Icarus Tour 2011

Full details on the Icarus Website

Icarus – live shows in UK and Europe, April – May 2011

In 2011, after a long hiatus, UK electronicistas Icarus set out in search of their first complete studio album in over 5 years (since The Leaf Label‘s “I Tweet the Birdy Electric“), only to emerge for a short tour throughout April and May. Icarus issue forth their barrage of sculpted hyperrythms and microtonal flutter in select locations throughout the UK and Europe.

So far this year, Icarus have produced a flurry of remixes for the artists Inch-Time, Caribou and Eclectic Method featuring Chuck D. Imminently forthcoming is their collaborative limited-edition vinyl EP with Danish electronica duo Badun, with whom Icarus‘ musical affinity is clearly audible.

Icarus‘ major project, the forthcoming album, Fake Fish Distribution, due towards the end of the year, is a peculiar undertaking, taking the form of a 1,000 limited-edition digital release in which each version is different from the last, each track interpolating through vast variations in structure and content as the versions are downloaded, to form a huge tapestry of variation from a single body of music. The album is being created new techniques using the software Max for Live, developed by Icarus during a residency at STEIM in the Netherlands.

“Bown and Britton are craftsmen when it comes to building condensed and intricate sound formations, and while it is difficult to isolate the various sections of a piece, they collate them with precision.” - The Milk Factory

“Picking up Kamikaze for a buck in the clearance bin of Amoeba Records back in 2001 was one of the best decisions i’ve ever made!” - Last FM commenter

  • TONIGHT – The Centrifuge Radio Show – Guest mixes from Opti (Airflex Labs) and Zzzzra (Sublime Porte)

Our main guest mix this week is from Airflex Labs supremo Opti. With releases from Submerse, Kabdriver, Nekochan, Flatmate and others (as well as Opti himself), Airflex has become a label to watch. Pierre has kindly put together a selection of his favourite current tunes including tracks from Headhunter, Radiohead, Boddika, Pearson Sound, Joy O and more – plenty of unreleased and forthcoming tracks feature over the hour long mix.

In addition, we’ve a 20 minute minimix from Zzzzra. A fascinating and prolific dub-techno producer, with five releases last year and three already in 2011, including his most recent ep on Insectorama. Alex has put together this mix of his material to give an insight into his style, and it’s one we hope you’ll enjoy.

In addition, we’ve new music from Luke’s Anger, Ital-tek, Psycatron, Domgue, Max Tundra, a genius remix of Tyler the Creator by Toro Y Moi, and many more. All that, and a little report from the weekend’s BLOC festival in Minehead.

www.brap.fm – 10-12pm GMT. Archived soon after in the usual places.

  • Interview with missaw in Trebuchet Magazine

Ahead of our pre-Bloc Warmup party, Sofia from Trebuchet Magazine took the time to ask missaw a few questions, the transcript is below.

Read the Interview On Trebuchet’s Website Here

With all this Dubstep flying around Acid may seem like a vague memory well wake up as it’s very much alive and kicking!

I ♥ Acid, The Centrifuge, and Complex Sound Sagacity presents to you The Pre-Bloc Warm Up Party! This is going to be a mind blowing event (literally) in East of London town full of acid, electro, rave and with entry only £3 before 9pm and £4 after- you really can’t miss this! We’ve been talking to Wassim from The Centrigue and yes he is as bonkers as his picture!

Can you tell me about The Centrifuge?
The Centrifuge is an artist collective interested in experimental and electronic music. We started a few years back as a humble DIY events series in Nottingham and have since put on shows around Europe, started a digital label and fortnightly radio show, and are currently focused on our artist management and live bookings agency.

What is your role within The Centrifuge?
Ummm…a lot! I organise and promote the events wherever they may be, I curate and run the label and spend most of my time these days organising tours and managing artists. I’m on the road a lot, keeping up with the music circus. Not much time to take a step back, which would be nice…

Tell me more about the Pre Bloc Warm up party?
Yes, we’re really chuffed about that one. Bloc is one of our favourite UK festivals and this year’s killer lineup means that friends of ours from all over Europe are coming to England to enjoy it. So we’re making the most of them being in the vicinity really, to do a little party with cool cats from places as disparate as Norway and Malta!

Who can’t you stop listening to at the moment?
I’m listening to music all day every day, and there’s a certain amount I need to get through to keep up which restricts my listening for pleasure. But there’s one artist who really blows me away with every tune he makes, and that’s EOD. Very excited about having him play at the pre-Bloc party at The MacBeth next week!

Which artists should we be looking out for this year?
There’s a bunch of our friends who are poised to release new music on some great labels. Here’s a quick rundown: Rival Consoles’ new glitch-pop album on Erased Tapes, EOD’s braindance transmissions on a still-secret label, Monster X’s electro-drill, Vaetxh’s first few glitchstep releases on Tigerbeat6 and Traum and last but by no means least our most recent label release by acid house wizard Automatic Tasty.

What do you have to say to all the Trebuchet readers out there?
If you’re an aspiring musician, keep at it and don’t play it safe! Fortune favours the brave, so get involved, don’t compromise on your ideals and push your music out there. We’re always keen to hear unique sounds. If you’re a fan, please support the artists you love by buying their music and going to their live shows. Cheers!

  • TONIGHT – The Centrifuge Radio Show – Caoutchou Records special

Boys WithoysIt’s time for another edition of The Centrifuge Radio Show, and this time around we’re putting a special focus on Belgian crew Caoutchou. After a couple of glorious compilations including a split with Ideation and the fantastic Moth Conk Midi lp, the Caoutchou crew have serious plans for the upcoming year. With several members of their crew appearing alongside artists from The Centrifuge at this summer’s Lost Theory festival. To celebrate, we’ve three 20 minute guest mixes from Ninjato, Stubborn and Boys Withoys. Covering the whole beat-based range with glitch, dubstep, jungle, idm and more, they’re a great introduction to the Caoutchou sound.

In addition, we’ve new music from Tipper, Ellen Allien, Siriusmo, Eschaton, Martsman, Downliners Sekt, Duskky, Altered Natives, Boddika, Zzzzra, Ceramic, wAgAwAgA and more, and we’ll be getting excited about the build up to BLOC weekend…

    Ed Chamberlain
    http://soundcloud.com/ed-chamberlain

BaseLogic founder member Edmund Chamberlain, preternaturally gifted composer and awkward gentleman, refused to commit his live sound to vinyl for many years and remained a shadowy figure despite calls from such luminaries as John Peel to come in from the cold and tell us what the deuce he was about. After years of tense negotiation, the three part ”Fixxy” series was prised from his white knuckles and unleashed on the world.

It went down like a spoon at a jam festival. The reaction was so overwhelming everyone had to sit down, and when no-one was looking Surgeon, Vent and Ochre did some remixes and the ”Mixxy” series was born. Stay tuned for further developments from Ed, as no-one can be quite sure what, if anything, will happen next.

We’re back for 2010, and to ease us into a new year of music (and to sate the requests of last week’s chatroom), I’ll be doing a live mix of some of my favourite tunes from last year – the best in experimental electronica and leftfield beats from the last 12 months including tunes from Instra:mental, Skip, Moth Conk Midi, Tudor Acid, Shed, Hurtdeer, Glatze, Sirisumo, Cursor Miner and many more.

In addition, there’s a smattering of new tunes from the likes of Macka, Altered Natives, Geotic, Downliners Sekt, Zzzzra, Brk&Wicked and more.

  • TONIGHT – The Centrifuge Radio Show – End of Year Special – Exclusive Guest Mix from Threnody (UK Trends / Combat Recordings / Sub FM)

    Threnody

It’s nearly christmas, most of us have finished work or school for the holidays, and brap.fm is winding down live shows for the next couple of weeks, so why not come join us and see 2010 out?

To round out the year, Sub FM’s Threnody has given us a great mix, 45 minutes of glitched up orchestral dubstep, rave stabs and vicious amens, featuring tunes from himself, Squire of Gothos, Full Spektrum and more. In addition i’ve new music from Vertical 67, Asusu, Instra:mental, Lone, Scuba, Sumone, The Black Dog and more. In addition, i’ll be going through some of my favourite tracks of the year, including my pick for tune of the year. Any guesses? I’ll give you a clue – it’s belgian in origin.

Get in the chatroom, and let’s see out the year in style.
