Here’s a sneak preview of something we’re cooking up for later this year. Berlin-based Nexus is releasing ‘Silicone Poplars’ on The Centrifuge netlabel and we’re quite excited by it.
Here’s a peek at one of the tracks, vivid melodies and more involved percussive elements than the rest of the release which twists and turns between modern ambient, electronica and sound art.
There’s more over at the Silicone Poplars mini-site (under development).
Excuse the blurry snaps, none of our photo people were around. Selected live sets will be added to the Mixes / Live Sets page soon.

[CF029] Yellow Then Blue – Tosche Station EP
Released August 16th 2009 at https://www.thecentrifuge.co.uk, free download.
A retroprogressive style EP. Electronica ripened under the California sun.
Tosche Station is an album based on using the Yamaha QY70 hardware sequencer. While listening to some particularly challenging and tech savvy music I realized that some of the most forward thinking music, and some of my favorite albums, were made before music making on computers became the norm. People had to push the limits of what their hardware could produce to realize the sounds in their heads. This album is an effort to pay homage to these early pioneers.

We had a nice knees-up in Leicester last Saturday with the PVC and Stench crew at the Stenchival, big up to everyone involved.
Here’s some photos and videos of circuit-bent hardware don Glatze (aka Mr Underwood / Uncool Sam), the world-famous lap steel guitarist BJ Cole and his collaboration with Centrifuge favourite Myoptik and yours truly messing about at the end.

————————-
INFO!
MR76IX LIVE (SKAM)
http://www.skam.com
Mr 76ix is a mysterious, legendary character in the world of electronic music. A long-time master of the glitchy rave sound that Skam Records became world famous for in the nineties, his amazing productions remained shielded from the public consciousness until his notorious live set at the Autechre-curated ATP in 2003. His performance was hailed as the highlight of the whole festival by the people in the know. Since then three albums of glorious electronic goodness have appeared on Skam, but the Manchester-based don has shunned the limelight in favour of honing his sonic creations yet further, adding a crisp, acidic electro sound to his darkwave flavour. This is a RARE chance to see the man, the myth, the legend Mr 76ix in London town premiering his forthcoming Skam album!
TEAM DOYOBI LIVE (SKAM / ICASEA / FAT-CAT / ALKU)
http://www.teamdoyobi.com
Long time Skam artists Team Doyobi are a UK/Japanese double act famous for their excellent output on Skam and other labels, and are now co-founders of ICASEA. The team are born from the paradoxical utilisation of obsolete electronic equipment to produce futuristic and otherwordly musical ‘scapes. From chip-rave anthems to emotionally charged cyber-ballads, the Team Doyobi live experience is almost religious in intensity.
MORTAL & CHEMIST LIVE (SKAM / ICASEA / 33)
http://www.icasea.net
Another UK/Japan creative nexus between Tom Knapp and Alex Peverett, mixing up classic Skam darkwave flavours and expert hardware tweakery to devastating effect. Initially formed from their loves of sampling, tape edits and remixing, M&C’s progression has landed them deep in worlds of sequencer coding, sound synthesis, Sci-Fi atmospheres and prolonged duration man-machine explorations free from the constraints of physical media they are firmly focused towards the future.
POBORSK LIVE (ICASEA / CACTUS ISLAND / TSUKU BOSHI / FILAMENT / PLASTIQPASSION)
http://www.myspace.com/poborsk
Poborsk will release the first digital release on Icasea, and has released previously on Cactus Island, Tsuku boshi and Plastiq passion. His music mixes shades of classic “IDM†with synthetic computer funk, depth charge bass drops, steel plated beats and concrete sound manipulation. Long time producer on the true underground, for hard core electronic music fans who don’t need to read the labels, don’t miss your chance to catch a rare live UK appearance.
KONX-OM-PAX LIVE (ICASEA / DISPLAY COPY)
http://www.konx-om-pax.co.uk/
Konx-om-Pax is 24 year old Glasgow based Director/Animator/Sound Designer Tom Scholefield. In recent years worked with Warp Records, Universal Everything and Optimo Espacio, he will be performing new material forthcoming on his own “Display Copy†imprint.
THE WYRDING MODULE LIVE (ICASEA)
http://wyrdingmodule.psybertron.co.uk/
The Wyrding Module is an electronic music project from paramusician Christopher Gladwin, one half of Team Doyobi (SKAM, ICASEA). The sounds of the Wyrding Module are inspired by Motorik Krautrock, Early Electronica, New Wave SF, psychedelia, 70’s horror films, W. S. Burroughs, Post Industrial Ambience and the Occult.
DJ’s:
GESCOM (SKAM / OR / CLEAR / SOURCE / WARP / FAT-CAT)
http://www.skam.com
A rare DJ set from the ultra-secretive Skam supergroup whose members are said to include Autechre, Rob Hall, Mr76ix, Andy Maddocks and many others…absolutely unmissable.
S>>D (ICASEA)
http://www.myspace.com/sfx2dtunes
Straight out of Belfast comes S>>D, we are very happy to have him play a rare DJ set, check out his podcast “end of line mix†on ∆ICASEA SELECT for pointers, expect Tuff electro-breaks, streetsounds era bangers, futuristic hiphop and much more. Not to be missed.
missaw (The Centrifuge)
www.missaw.com
missaw is The Centrifuge’s label curator & resident remixer, creating electronic concoctions for the body and the mind.
VJ the SuRReaLaRTiST (Ginglik)
http://www.myspace.com/surrealartistVJ
The SuRReaLaRTiST pushes the boundaries of live clubland visuals every week @ TECHLIKS. Turning the beats into light, colour and shape means that your dance floor experience is truly a multi-sensory one. Mixing an eye popping blend of tough graphics, cult films, timelapse, CGI, lasers, stop-frame animation, surrealism & abstraction; all with a bit of dark humour thrown in there for good measure. Your retinas won’t know what to do with themselves!
